Working as part of your treatment team and collaborating with your healthcare professionals is so important. The service provided by a Health Coach is meant to complement the work of healthcare

professionals by filling a void in the healthcare system. This is especially true when working with clients who have medical conditions or health problems related to hormonal imbalances.

A doctor can do things outside a Health Coach’s scope while the coach helps with implementation and provides emotional support, a safe space for you to be heard, a source of encouragement, and a place to brainstorm and try new perspectives. Navigating a health condition can be scary and

overwhelming; the support from a Health Coach through this experience can greatly

support positive outcomes.

As a Health Coach I can help you:

• Prepare questions for your doctor or nutritionist to maximize limited time during

an appointment.

• Advocate for your health.

• Find practitioners and build a treatment team that fulfills your individual needs.

• Research and learn about various testing options, supplements, and alternative

treatments to discuss with your doctor.

• Process your feelings around a diagnosis or test result.

• Take responsibility for setting your goals and driving the process.

• Identify obstacles related to your health and wellness and construct solid goals that promote your overall health and well-being.

• Brainstorm creative and sustainable ways to implement recommendations or

treatment protocols.

• Tap into your resources, personal strengths, virtues, insight, intuition, and external sources of support.

• Stay accountable for your progress.

When it comes to health and wellness, the food on a person’s plate is often secondary

to their primary food. Providing space for my clients to explore primary food and make

changes in ways that work for them deepens their self-awareness about their health

and happiness while increasing my ability to support them.

Coaching through the lens of primary food allows my clients to realize the connections

between primary food and their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Through increased

awareness, my clients can better understand how the different areas of their lives are

interconnected and explore meaningful ways to work toward their goals.

Using the lens of secondary food is a powerful way to guide my clients in creating a unique eating approach that supports their bio-individual needs and multidimensional health. I can help them discover the underlying causes of their eating patterns and food relationships, which will help lead to long-lasting improvements.

Each person’s well-being is multidimensional. Many clients enroll in a coaching

program to work on one problem or achieve one goal, only to have another revealed.

Their challenges often have underlying origins, and clients may not know which

areas of their lives are involved. By focusing on primary food, I can

help clients uncover the imbalances in their lives and discover what’s going on. As a

result, they gain new insights that help them see what’s under the surface of their

nutritional challenges and health concerns.

When this happens, I can help clients directly address the root cause(s)

behind many of their health challenges. Clients can then determine the sustainable

shifts that will best support their wellness. As the client brings their primary food

back into balance, they’re likely to find that many problems resolve themselves.

Although primary food is often the priority in health coaching, secondary food – the food on our plates – significantly contributes to overall health and nourishment. Navigating personal nutrition isn’t always easy. There are a variety of eating approaches, nutritional concepts, and ways to choose, prepare, and eat different foods that can leave people confused and in need of support.

Secondary food includes the meals, snacks, and drinks we consume each daythat fuel and energize our body. Eating can be a joyful part of life, provided our primary food – including relationships, home environment, and career – is balanced. Unfortunately, many people have emotional and psychological struggles with food.

People sometimes use secondary food to fill the voids from primary food imbalances, which leads to secondary food imbalances as well. Although improvements in primary food will often be reflected in secondary food, Health Coaches play an important role in helping people make sustainable nutritional changes directly.

I may not always agree with my clients’ nutritional decisions or choice of eating style, but I always want to provide a safe space for them to explore secondary food. Through health coaching, I can guide clients toward more nutritious choices.
